1. The Moon is going away from the Earth

Do you know that the moon is constantly moving away from the earth? Yes, the moon is moving 1.5 inches (4 cm) away from the earth every year. However, this rate is very low, so we do not feel it. This is one of the most interesting main facts about the moon.

2. How the Moon was formed ?

How the moon was formed is the most mysterious question as well as one of the main facts about the Moon. We humans have always wanted to know how our moon was formed and with this longing, scientists and thinkers said different things about its construction.

Some scientists believe that millions of years ago a body (satellite) was passing slowly next to the Earth. As it entered the Earth's Gravitational Field, due to its slow speed and earth's gravitational force, it started circling around the earth. And that's how our moon was born.

The problem with this theory is the size of the moon. The size of the moon is very large and it is almost impossible for the Earth to pull the satellite of such a large size and turn it around.

If we talk about Ganymede, the largest moon of Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, it radius is about 2,631 km and Jupiter has a radius of about 69,911 km. There is a lot of difference in the radius of both. That is, the size of Ganymede is much smaller than that of Jupiter.

Whereas if we talk about the Earth's moon, its radius is about 1,737 km and the radius of the Earth is about 6,371 km. There is not much difference between the radius of the two. Do you know, In 1998, the spacecraft 'Lunar Prospector' sent by U.S.A informed that there is water and snowfall on the polar region of the moon but the water is said to be exist on moon in very small quantity.

9. What is Blue Moon ?

Blue Moon is a phenomenon that occurs due to having more days than 12 lunar months in a particular year.

A lunar month is about 29.5 days and mainly there are 12 lunar months in a year. That is a time of 354 days. Being 365 days in a year, the remaining 11 days are left in addition to the 354 days required for 12 full moon days in each year. This is why, in about 2.7 years, 29.5 days are required to have an extra full moon and this extra full moon is called Blue Moon.

There is a month in every 2.7 years in which the full moon occurs twice, but the difference between the two full moon days is still 29.5 days. The second full moon of such month is called Blue Moon. Like December month of 2009. In this month there were two full moon days on 02^nd and 31^st December. The full moon on 31^st was called Blue Moon.

10. What is Super Moon ?

When the moon (on a full moon) is located in its longitudinal orbit at the point closest to the Earth. So this phenomenon is called Super Moon. In this case, the moon appears larger and more brighter.

A special coincidence occurred on the full moon day of 19 March 2011 when the moon was closest to the Earth. The special thing of this event was that a full moon occurred just 50 minutes before the moon reached the nearest point from the earth. On this occasion, the moon appeared 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than other full moon years.
